Farragut Home Parks and Greenways
Farragut homes have the best of all worlds combined. The town has combined the leisure and recreational community needs to provide the parks and greenways for the optimum use of all residents of Farragut homes. Located south of Hardin Valley and west of Knoxville, this town once was called Campbell’s Station. The town has been incorporated since 1980.
Residents of Farragut homes enjoy a comfortable lifestyle with Farragut being named “one of the 25 best affordable suburbs in the South” by Business Week in 2007. Only minutes away for residents of Farragut homes is a shopping hub. Turkey Creek has more than 300 acres that are zoned for retail business and there are literally dozens of shopping outlets, restaurants, banks and a huge movie theater.
In addition, the town has many parks for the recreational activities residents enjoy. Anchor Park is 15 acres of lakefront that is designed for families. There are 3 picnic areas that include grills, a fishing pond, basketball court, horseshoe pit, a volleyball court and playground. Restrooms are available and there is a paved trail for walking.
Mayor Bob Leonard Park is another of the multi-use parks that provide both recreation and athletic usage. This is one of the primary sports complexes in the area. The center of the park contains wetlands which are surrounded by a walking trail that is lighted.
Campbell Station Park is 17 acres that neighbors the Farragut branch of the Knox County library. There are many open areas for play, benches, a walking trail and 2 picnic areas with grills.
McFee Park is 26 acres that is phase one of several that will open later. This park has two lighted fields, two walking trails that are also lighted and restrooms are available. Plans for phase two include a playground with many activities, two large picnic areas and many other amenities for the public to enjoy.
The greenways are another feature of Farragut, providing many places for roller blading, running, walking or bicycling. The greenways include Grigsby Chapel Greenway, with many of the spots on the trail leading to the subdivisions in the neighborhood as well as apartments and condos at the north end.
Turkey Creek Greenway is 1.6 miles of trail that connects the subdivisions of Sailview, Kingsgate and Brixworth with Anchor Park. There is parking at Anchor Park for those who wish to enjoy this greenway.
Parkside Greenway is 2 miles of paved trail of which ½ mile is within the town of Farragut. The other 1 ½ miles is in Knoxville. It runs along I-40/75 from Lovell Road to the northwest section of Parkside Drive.
